When something goes wrong with your taskbar, it can really ruin your computer experience. Strange taskbar behavior warrants immediate repair of the taskbar. The taskbar is like the air we breathe in computer world. We rely on it to get even the simplest task done. The good news is that this dilemma is easy to resolve.
Just Drag and Click the Taskbar
Have you ever had your taskbar end up on the right-hand side of your screen or way up at the top? It’s kind of like an American going to England and being expected to drive on the left side of the road or vice versa. You can do it, but would probably prefer not to. We are creatures of habit, and this feature really doesn’t seem to be preferred by most average computer users.
Just drag and click the toolbar back down to the bottom and right click on that baby. Now check “Lock the Toolbar.” You should be good to go.
How to Find a Hidden Taskbar
Sometimes, the taskbar will disappear when you run your mouse over it. Even better, you can’t even see it on your desktop anywhere.
When the trusty drag and click method doesn’t work, you can try to reset the settings. Don’t worry; I’m not about to ask you to perform a System Restore and try to remember the exact date that this phenomenon occurred. Nor will you get to do something as challenging as reloading your entire operating system.
This problem is not that complicated. Here’s what you do:
• Go to Start or just press Ctrl+Esc and it will pull up the start menu.
• Select settings, Taskbar, and then Start Menu.
• Make sure that you have the auto hide off and the taskbar is unlocked.
• Now if your taskbar is set to a zero height, you can resize it. Usually a small line will appear at the bottom of the screen for you to click and drag back to its normal size.
• After you fix it, don’t forget to right click and lock the taskbar back in place.
When the Taskbar is Still Acting Strange
Does your taskbar still not want to restore programs or when you try to fix the toolbar settings, everything is grayed out? This may just be faulty registry keys. The next thing you want to do is check for any malware on the computer.
After eliminating that, it may be time to run a registry cleaner. For the more adept computer user, you may decide to do it yourself.
